For Security & Compliance

Govern AI coding without slowing it down

Flag secrets and PII before prompts leave the developer machine, keep a complete audit trail, and enforce access with server-side RBAC.

  • Catch secrets before they leave the laptop
  • Answer auditors with a full trail
  • Keep AI inside your access controls
AI governance

What do AI governance tools do for engineering teams?

They bring AI coding tools inside the controls you already apply to everything else: catching secrets and personal data before a prompt leaves the laptop, turning your usage policy into rules on every machine, recording every AI action, showing which AI tools are installed and limiting who sees what. CloudByte AI does all of it from one lightweight agent and one dashboard.

The questions security teams are asked

  • 01

    Are secrets leaking into prompts?

Developers paste stack traces, configs and environment files into prompts, and nobody sees it happen.

  • 02

Can we prove who did what?

When an auditor asks who sent what to which model, the answer sits in terminal history that no longer exists.

  • 03

    Is usage inside our controls?

AI tools get adopted bottom-up, outside the identity and access rules you already enforce.

01Policy

Turn an AI usage policy into guardrails

Write the policy once and let the agent enforce it on every machine. CloudByte AI suggests guardrails that fit each project and its stack, such as which folders the assistant may edit. Adjust them, save them as your team policy and push it to every developer in one step.

  • Rules per team or per project, each set to block or flag
  • Alerts when AI tool settings or permission files change outside your policy
  • CLAUDE.md compliance per project and developer, so project instructions exist and are followed
See AI-suggested guardrails
02Audit trail

An audit trail for every AI action

Every AI action is logged with the user, organization, project, prompt and token spend, so you can answer who sent what to which model. Sensitive prompt alerts and guardrail events land in the same trail.

  • Export the trail of AI actions for the period under review
  • Every dashboard feature is also a REST endpoint with an OpenAPI 3 spec, so audit data flows into your own tools
  • Retention follows your plan: Free 7 days, Starter 90 days, Team unlimited, Enterprise custom policy
  • Commit diffs deleted after 5 days, while metadata and AI summaries stay for your history
See audit and compliance
03Shadow AI

Find shadow AI on developer machines

The agent builds an inventory of the AI coding tools, assistants and extensions on every machine, approved or not, and flags new ones as soon as they appear. Approve a tool once and it joins your allowlist.

  • Inventory of AI tools per developer and machine
  • Plugins and MCP servers detected, with what each one can reach
  • Allowlist exactly what your team may install
  • Included in the Team plan and Enterprise
See shadow AI detection
04Prompt scanning

Keep sensitive data out of prompts

Every prompt is scanned on the developer machine before it reaches the model. A prompt that breaks a blocking rule never leaves the laptop, and admins are alerted in real time.

  • PII, credentials, API keys, tokens and private keys covered out of the box
  • Your own rules for things like customer IDs or internal hostnames
  • Block or flag each rule by severity
See AI Security
Access and isolation

Access control and data isolation

Every organization is isolated at the database level and every project has its own data scope, so cross-project data never leaks, even for admins switching teams. Four roles are checked on the server for every request.

Roles and what each one can access
RoleAccess
Super AdminFull control across every organization on the account.
Org AdminFull control within one organization: users, roles, integrations and settings.
ReviewerReview access to dashboards, skills and alerts for the projects they are assigned.
StandardDay-to-day access to their own activity and the team views their admins allow.
  • Encryption

API keys and BYOK credentials are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and decrypted only per request. BYOK is on the Enterprise plan.

  • Sign-in by plan

Google SSO with domain restriction and magic-link sign-in on the Team plan and up, with one-time tokens that expire in 5 minutes. SSO with SAML on Enterprise.

  • Where it runs

CloudByte cloud by default. On the Enterprise plan, self-host as a single containerised service on PostgreSQL, or run air-gapped with in-org model endpoints.

Checklist

An AI governance checklist

Eight controls security teams want in place before AI coding scales, and where each one lives in CloudByte AI.

  • Scan prompts for secrets and PII

    Why it matters

Developers paste configs, stack traces and keys into prompts by accident.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Prompt scanning on the developer machine, with each rule set to block or flag
  • Publish an AI usage policy

    Why it matters

A written policy only works if it reaches every machine.

    Where in CloudByte AI

AI-suggested guardrails, saved as a team policy and pushed to every developer
  • Keep an audit trail

    Why it matters

Auditors ask who sent what to which model.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Every AI action logged with user, organization, prompt and token spend
  • Inventory AI tools

    Why it matters

Tools get adopted bottom-up, outside your approval process.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Shadow AI detection with an allowlist, plus plugin and MCP server detection
  • Watch AI tool settings

    Why it matters

One settings change can widen what an assistant may do.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Alerts when settings or permission files change outside your policy
  • Check project instructions

    Why it matters

Rules in CLAUDE.md only help if they exist and are followed.

    Where in CloudByte AI

CLAUDE.md compliance per project and developer (Team plan)
  • Enforce roles and isolation

    Why it matters

AI data has to follow the access rules you already have.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Four server-enforced roles, with data isolated per organization and project
  • Control sign-in

    Why it matters

Access to AI data should go through your identity provider.

    Where in CloudByte AI

Google SSO with domain restriction on Team, SSO with SAML on Enterprise

FAQ

AI governance questions, answered

What governance tools do, how to set a policy and audit AI work, and what CloudByte AI stores.

Software that keeps AI coding inside your security and compliance controls. They scan prompts for secrets and personal data, enforce your AI usage policy on every machine, log every AI action for audit, find AI tools nobody approved and limit who can see what.

Decide what must never leave a laptop, which tools are approved and what assistants may change. In CloudByte AI, the guardrails suggested for each project become that policy: adjust them, save them for a team or project, and push them to every developer machine in one step.

AI-suggested guardrails

Record it at the source. CloudByte AI logs every AI action with the user, organization, project, prompt and token spend, keeps prompt alerts and guardrail events in the same trail, and lets you export the actions for any period or pull them through the REST API.

Not yet: SOC 2 Type II is in progress. Today CloudByte AI isolates data per organization and project, encrypts API keys and BYOK credentials at rest with AES-256-GCM, enforces four roles on the server for every request and keeps an audit trail of every AI action.

Security overview

No source code files are uploaded. The agent sends prompts and tool observations, session details and summaries, token usage per model, commit metadata with diff stats, and agent heartbeats. Commit diffs used for summaries are kept for only 5 days. Keystrokes, environment variables, screen recordings and browser activity are never collected.
